Project Northern Crafts ID will organize the expert seminar “Marketing of Handicrafts: old concepts and new approaches” aiming to advance branding and marketing of crafts across the border. The seminar will take place online on February 4 and 5, 2021 and will be open for observers. Registration for the event has started and will continue until January 31, 2021.

Seminar participants will discuss responses to the changing behavior of customers in a globalized world and will provide innovative solutions for crafts businesses in the times of global pandemics. Experts will answer how to raise prestige of the manual labor building on craftsmen own work and will make connections between crafts and traditions of families, peoples and locations. Craftworkers’ own voices, experiences and stories will have the central role in the discussion.

This seminar will be a good opportunity for direct interaction between experts, craftsmen, scientists and authorities from Finland and northwest Russia. Northern Crafts ID team will present preliminary results of the project and some new initiatives. Project Northern Crafts ID is supported by Karelia CBC Programme and aims to increase opportunities for the development of entrepreneurship around handicrafts in the Republic of Karelia, Northern Karelia and Oulu region.
