Partners from the North Karelian museum, Joensuu visited the InterActive History project team in Petrozavodsk

In late October 2019 partners from the North Karelian museum, Joensuu visited Petrozavodsk for a team meeting and a presentation of the current project results in the National museum of the Republic of Karelia.

Director of the North Karelian museum Tarja Raninen-Siiskonen together with her colleagues Iiris Heino and Erkki Matikainen met with the Russian partners to discuss the project’s progress in the museums of Karelia. The design projects for the exhibitions in Kurkijoki and Petrozavodsk and an architectural concept for the overall improvement of the city park in Olonets were presented to the guests from Joensuu.

Director of the National museum of the Republic of Karelia Mikhail Goldenberg showed a layout model of the Round Square (now Lenin Square) from 1775-1785 which was created and set up in the museum through the InterActive History project. He also gave a one-of-a-kind tour of the exhibition on the history of Petrozavodsk using this new exhibit. A beta-version of a mobile application of the Round Square which is currently under development was also presented during the visit.

Partners from the North Karelian museum highly appreciated the current project results in the Russian museums and admitted that some of the ideas, solutions and approaches which were demonstrated during this visit could also be applied in the Hilma museum in Joensuu.
