Transformation of KALEVALA Universe

transformation

While the whole world was celebrating the New Year and Christmas holidays, and was slowly entering the working rhythms, it was hustle and bustle in the Museum of Fine Arts of Karelia. We are working on creation of a pilot exposition "KALEVALA Universe" within the "Museums in Focus" project.

Some time ago we told you how the space of the new exposition had been transformed during the renovation of the exhibition halls, and now our experts are working with installations and equipment that will create a unique atmosphere of the universe of the karelian and finnish epic poem.

Unusual trees - elements of the "rune forest" installation - are growing in the first hall of the exposition; the elements of the egg-shaped hall, where visitors will get acquainted with the birth of the world, are rising; in the third hall a fresco depicting a huge wedding bull appeared on the wall. It is incredible that a small book illustration, created by the famous artist Alisa Poret in 1940 for the design of the book, suddenly appeared in a new mega-format.

From one hall to another we are following the "black river" - a large stencil navigation that leads the viewer to new adventures and impressions.

The museum keeps a rich collection of illustrations telling about the wonders of Kalevala. At the end of February, the exposition will open its doors to the audience and will present not only the golden fund of Karelian and Russian art dedicated to the epic poem, but will also immerse us in an unforgettable atmosphere with the help of installations, light and color!
