Ilomantsi Museum Foundation organized a launch event of their InterActive History project last Friday.

Invitations were sent to project partners, members of the press, local travel entrepreneurs and people who had been involved in the project along the way. On Friday, a decent group of participants gathered to the Rune Singer’s House at the Parppeinvaara Rune Singer’s Village museum, including two reporters and representatives of the North Karelian museum and Outokumpu mining museum.

In Ilomantsi the goal of the project was to produce a multimedia presentation and a mobile guide for the museum area representing the local rune singing tradition. Project worker Sini-Maria Melanen presented the mobile guide and the recently installed multimedia presentation situated at the Rune Singer’s House.

Also, expansion of the museum’s WiFi network had been finished to cover the whole museum area.

Participants were excited to learn about the local cultural history and the rich folk traditions of their ancestors. Suggestions were given how to market the products and utilize them for tourism purposes. For example, instructions how to use the mobile guide will be included in the Ilomantsi travel guide for next summer.

“I’m so happy that this project has finally been realized. The Rune Singer’s Village now offers proper information about our rune singing tradition”, said event participant Raija Klemola, whose mother and father were the early advocates of the Parppeinvaara Rune Singer’s Village museum in the 1960’s and 70’s.
