InterActive History international project in Olonets

Implementation of the InterActive History Russian-Finnish project is building up.

In late January 2019 the team of the InterActive History project visited Olonets to coordinate further activities to be carried out in the Olonets national museum of Southern Karelians. Several experts also joined the project team in this 2-day trip to discuss The Olonets Fortress sub-project on site – Oleg Veselitsky, head of the Environmental Design Department of the Saint Petersburg Stieglitz State Academy of Art and Design, Natalia Baburova, associate professor of the Environmental Design Department of the Stieglitz Academy, Dmitry Kotov, designer from Petrozavodsk, and Andrei Rymar, head of ARKF museum bureau from Moscow. Meetings were held with the representatives of the Olonets museum and the Administration of the Olonets district – deputy head of the Administration and head of the Social Development Department Alla Zorina and head of the Department of Property, Architecture and Urban Development Tatyana Kalashnikova.

InterActive History international project in OlonetsDuring the visit experts studied the museum’s collections and the exhibition and explored the city park area and its surroundings which are the locations of the former Olonets fortress. As a result of this visit an agreement was reached with the Stieglitz Academy about the assignment of students from the Academy to design the Olonets park area in the context of the whole historical part of the city. This work will start already in February 2019. By the end of 2019 the exhibition in the Olonets museum which is devoted to the history of Olonets and the Olonets fortress will be renewed.

The InterActive History project unites 6 museums in Russia and Finland and is implemented in the partnership with the Ministry of culture of the Republic of Karelia in the framework of the Karelia cross-border cooperation programme.
