Thinning stand, pine forest

The Russian experts of the Bofori project have familiarized with the new norms on intensive forestry approved for the Republic of Karelia. Suitable forest stands for thinnings were explored in a field seminar in Segezha. Applicable technology and work efficiency, as well as wood quality were discussed with experts representing authorities, research, education and business.

According to the Russian legislation forest user has a right to choose applied forestry model, i.e. whether to continue to follow the old norms or change to intensive forestry practices. The applicability of new norms in Karelia is one of the issues to be analysed in the outputs of Bofori project.
