Project partners are planning for the Youth Kantele Creative Forum

The working meeting of the KanteleGO! staff took place in Petrozavodsk on February 15, 2019. Project manager Olga Vlasova and project coordinator Larisa Prokopenkova, the director  of the Pryazha National School of Arts, discussed the working plan for the Youth Kantele Creative Forum, participation of music teachers from Pryazha district in Kantele Master Course in Kuhmo, and management issues connected with the partners’ roles within the KanteleGO! project.

Music students from 6 to 14 years old from several districts of the Republic of Karelia and their kantele teachers will participate in the Youth Kantele Creative Forum later this year.  More than 40 school children will learn new kantele playing styles in order to apply newly acquired knowledge in their creative activity. The Pryazha National School of Arts together with the Kantele Ensemble and Finnish experts are willing to develop alternative style of kantele performing, kantele improvisation techniques and composing skills. It requires preliminary work on developing performing and teaching methods of Karelian kantele teachers at the Kantele Master Course in Kuhmo in June 2019. The results of children creative work will be further reflected in short animated videos performed by art students of the Pryazha National School of Arts.

Planning for the forum started long before the grant contract was signed. In December 2018 project partners met in Petrozavodsk at the Ethnocultural Forum held by the Petrozavodsk State Glazunov Conservatoire. Musicians of the Petrozavodsk Conservatory Finno-Ugric Music Department got to know about the KanteleGO! project supported by the CBC Karelia programme thanks to the presentation by project manager Olga Vlasova.
