Experts on cultural heritage will gather in Petrozavodsk for the opening seminar of the InterActive History international project

The opening seminar will take place in Petrozavodsk on December 11-13, 2018 to launch the InterActive History Russian-Finnish project. Representatives from museums in Joensuu, Ilomantsi, Outokumpu, Olonets, Kurkijoki and Petrozavodsk will participate in the seminar.

The project participants will face the challenge of creating and introducing new integrated museum services that focus on cultural and historic monuments and sites which have been completely or partially lost or have undergone significant changes, such as the former fortress of the XVII-XVIII centuries in Olonets or the former copper smelting plant of the XIX-XX centuries in Outokumpu.

During the seminar leading scientists and experts in history, archeology and architecture will introduce cultural and historic heritage research results carried out in the Republic of Karelia and Finland as applied to the project’s locations. Experts in design, information technologies and building exhibitions will share their experience and introduce advanced methods of heritage interpretation.

Mikhail Gnedovsky, one of the Russian renowned experts in cultural policy and social and cultural development, a leading analyst of the Moscow Center for Museum Development and a member of the Presidium of ICOM Russia, will moderate the seminar and present the best museum practices in Russia and other countries. 

The content of the seminar will help the participants to find methods to address the project’s goals and teamwork between museum professionals and experts will be focused on the development of skills for effective interaction with partners and subcontractors.
