Chinese students tested new services in the Museum of Karelia
Last week Chinese students from the Petrozavodsk State Conservatory named after A.K.Glazunov tested new products and services of the Museum of Fine Arts of Karelia for Chinese tourists. In 2020 the museum created a new navigation system in the entrance area and on the first floor, a new section of the permanent exhibition dedicated to the Karelian-Finnish epic poem "Kalevala", a modernized entrance area of the museum, which became more comfortable for receiving foreign visitors.
Within the project "Museums in Focus: Development of Cultural Services for Chinese Tourists", Chinese students of the Petrozavodsk State Conservatory were invited to test the created products. First of all the Chinese visitors carefully studied the navigation system and information signs in Chinese. They noted the high level of linguistic accessibility, as well as the professionalism of the translator.
Chinese students especially liked the new section of the permanent exhibition dedicated to "Kalevala", rich in interactive and didactic materials. First of all they paid attention to the traditional Karelian musical instruments, that could be played at the exposition. Then the students tried on medieval costumes created especially for the exhibition. It was really interesting, educational and fun for them. The Chinese guests expressed amusing thoughts about the similarity of the cultures: for example, the medieval costumes from the Kalevala exposition reminded a traditional Tibetan outfit.
Also the Chinese students were really amazed with the collection of old icons and the film about the process of creating an icon. The bright exhibition "Palette of Georgia V" attracted them with its luscious painting. The front hall of the museum aroused delight, and the canvases of Russian painters were also of great interest for them.
The project team expresses its deep gratitude to the staff of the Conservatory for their assistance in organizing the test tour. For the project team, which has been implementing the “Museums in Focus” project activities for a whole year, it was pleasant to get positive feedback from the target group.
