Practice on Kizhi Island

In March students from Petrozavodsk State University studied in the training centre of the Kizhi Museum. The programme was held in Petrozavodsk and on Kizhi Island and included lectures and practical training.

During training course students had lectures on measurements and marking of wooden architecture, learnt the main principles and types of marking, knew about the peculiarities of wooden architecture, history of building and restoration of the Church of Transfiguration, understood tasks and secrets of a restorer profession.

As Alexander Luybimtsev, the head of department, tells: profession of a restorer can’t be boring. A restorer is an architect and designer, a researcher and historian. To be a restorer means to learn and study. But the most important thing is to put life into your work.

During practice students knew how to make measurements and marking of wooden building, studied traditional carpenters tools. Practice was held in Oyatevchshina and Yamka villages.
