Petrozavodsk - the capital of Russian design 2020

The year of 2020 turned the whole world upside down and brought a new reality, but nevertheless it turned out to be very interesting for the Museum of Fine Arts of Karelia and the city of Petrozavodsk, which was declared the capital of Russian design 2020.

At the STRATEGIC SESSION the members of THE KARELIAN BRANCH OF THE OF RUSSIAN DESIGNERS' UNION summed up the results of 2020, within which a lot of events and activities took place.

The museum of fine arts of Karelia acted as a partner and became one of the key sites where the VICTORIA DESIGN AWARDS exhibition was held at the beginning of 2020, where the works of the leading Russian designers were presented.

At the session Natalya Kozlovskaya, Head of the Development department of the Museum, spoke about the exhibition, after which the cooperation of the Museum and the Designers' Union continued in a new format. Yana Permyakova created a design project for the modernization of the entrance area of the Museum as well as a complex of souvenir showcases; Viktor Safonov, a graphic designer,  created the new visual navigation system on the first floor of the Museum. This work was completely realised thanks to the project KA9021 "Museums in Focus: Development of Cultural Services for Chinese Tourists", financed within the cross-border cooperation programme "Karelia". And now the new hall is more light and functional, and the navigation system allows guests to feel comfortable in the museum even during the first visit.

The "Year of Design" continued in the Museum with the implementation of two more projects - a sensory room,
where people with special needs can relax, and the new section of the permanent exhibition "Kalevala" Universe" dedicated to the epic poem "Kalevala". The design projects of these spaces were carried out by a team of designers from St. Petersburg - Anastasia Dubrovskaya and Andrey Skritsky. The exposition "Kalevala" Universe" is a part of the" Museums in Focus" project.

The Museum of Fine Arts of Karelia expresses its gratitude to the Karelian Designers' Union for cooperation and participation in the final strategic session.
