Kantele teachers from Pryazha got new music instruments

In October 2019 the National school of Arts of the Pryazha district named after V.L. Kalaberda purchased new kantele for the music teachers Valentina Chernyakova and Dmitri Mukhorin  thanks to the Karelia CBC project “Kantele Goes Global! Ground Zero”. It’s a big event in music education of the Pryazha district as music teachers can now increase the number of students and provide them with a high quality instruments for better performing results.

The Pryazha School of Arts is one of children schools in the Republic of Karelia in which kantele is being taught as the main instrument and not just a voluntary course. After graduation from the school students may wish to continue their music education in music college or Petrozavodsk State Glazunov Conservatory and bevome professional kantele performers and teachers.

The director of the National school of Arts of the Pryazha district named after V.L. Kalaberda Larisa Prokopenkova emphasizes the importance of the kantele purchase for local children: “new concert chromatic kantele will allow to develop students performing skills and introduce kantele music in with better sound quality. Two music instruments  - kantele-prima and kantele-basso, were specially made for the “Runa” kantele ensemble of the Pryazha school of Arts.

The first performance introducing new kantele instruments will happen at the Youth Music Forum “Kantele-GO!” in Kostomuksha in February, 2020. The forum will combine up to 40 children from different parts of the Republic of Karelia and Finland.
